The brief for this project called for a more contemporary approach than many of the projects we typically work on, with a focus on creating a scheme that felt warm, playful and inviting within the modern architecture. Playful patterns, colour and texture were therefore key to bringing warmth and a sense of homeliness to the house.

Working with Beam Development and MWAI Architects, the rear kitchen and dining room were opened up to create a generous living space, while the surrounding areas were reconfigured to better support modern family life. Our focus was on making sense of the expansive open-plan kitchen and living area, while complementing – and gently softening – the clean, modern lines of the architecture. To achieve this, we carefully zoned the space with defined areas for dining, relaxing and a home office or homework spot. The additional reception room was transformed into a dedicated TV and movie room, enveloped in cocooning colour.
